Our school of spanish in Uruguay is in the center of the historic district of Montevideo, on central Plaza Matriz, right next to the main sights and attractions of the city and with excellent public transport to all other parts of town. It occupies the top floor of a completely refurbished historic building, with access to a rooftop terrace with great views over the old part of town.

All of our staff are professional language teachers with relevant university degrees from top universities in Uruguay. All of them are native speakers, of course. Most of them speak at least two other languages and have extensive experience in working with students from abroad.

Montevideo is the youngest capital of Latin America. It was founded by the governor of Buenos Aires, Don Bruno Mauricio de Zabala, but it is a smaller, more quiet and laid-back city, compared to its big sister, Buenos Aires.

It is home to 43% of the countrys 2,9 million inhabitants.

The countrys capital hosts an ample range of sights and shows throughout the year: museums, theatres, expositions, concerts, and popular festivals.

Montevideo preserves architecture from different epochs, styles, and trends thats difficult to find in other places. The Uruguayan capital is considered a garden city, open and filled with trees, where one can breathe the perfume of the flowers.

It also has a number of important museums of fine arts, such as the Nacional de Artes Visuales in the Parque Rodó, or the monument to Torres García in the Old City. Among museums of history, we emphasize the Museo del Gaucho and living museums, such as the Estadio Centenario, seat of the first World Cup in 1930, now declared the World Football Monument by F.I.F.A.

Carnival lasts 40 nights (from February to March), and is the longest in the world. La murga is a mix of music, choreography, colorful costumes and political satire. Along with la murga, las Llamadas is characterized by a parade of lubola musical groups full of rhythm and color that bring to the present day its movements and drums, the heritage of African music originating from the slaves over two hundred years ago. Given the great popularity of candombe (the drum music), you can see and hear these bands parading through the streets of Montevideo every Saturday and Sunday.

The second oldest theatre in South America, called Teatro Solis, frequently hosts high-quality national and international shows. The city also has an extensive theatre circuit that runs plays Thursdays through Sundays.

The Old City offers a nightlife filled with a variety of pubs, dance clubs and restaurants where you can find both musical and culinary variety, including tango, salsa, flamenco, and Brazilian music. Whats more, there are the classic options of tango bars more representative of the city of Montevideo.

Like all cities, Montevideo has typical commercial centers. It also hosts the Cinemateca, the most important circuit of alternative cinema that shows some 100 films of different nationalities and film makers each month.

No less important are the views offered by the boulevard that surrounds practically the whole city. Its a typical Uruguayan activity to walk along and enjoy the boulevard, and share a mate while contemplating the River Plate and the city at its feet.

Our language school in Montevideo offers its student the possibility to share an apartment or house with other international students and generally at least one person from Uruguay. Usually, 3 or 4 students share an apartment, each with his / her own bedroom.

Couples and friends travelling together can ask to share a bedroom. The living and dining room, the bath and other parts of the house or apartment are shared.

Deluxe rooms have private bath, air conditioning, superior design and additional space. Standard rooms have heating (winter) and ceiling fans (summer) and shared bathrooms.
